The short version
Scolavo (“we”, “us”) builds cinematic and interactive lessons. We collect the minimum we need to run your account and improve learning. We do not sell personal information. We never use children’s data for advertising. Schools own their students’ data, and we act as their service provider.
Information we collect
- Account information — name, email, password, and the plan you’re on.
- Learner profiles — display name, level, and the subjects a learner is taking.
- Learning activity — lessons watched, answers, quiz results, streaks, and progress, so we can show your map and pick up where you left off.
- Device & usage data — browser type, approximate region, and basic analytics events.
- Payment data — handled by our payment processor; we store only a billing reference, never full card numbers.
Children’s privacy
Scolavo is used by children. For learners under 13 (and equivalent ages abroad), we follow COPPA-style principles: we collect only what’s needed to deliver lessons, we don’t serve behavioral advertising, and we don’t require children to disclose more than is reasonably necessary.
On Family plans, a parent or guardian creates and controls learner profiles and can review, export, or delete a child’s data at any time. On School plans, the school provides the required consent on behalf of parents as permitted by law.
Schools & student data (FERPA)
When a school or district uses Scolavo, the school controls its students’ records and we act as a “school official” / service provider under FERPA and applicable state student-privacy laws. We use student data only to provide the service to the school, never to build advertising profiles, and we return or delete it at the end of the engagement on request.
How we use information
- To run lessons, save progress, and personalize what comes next.
- To provide dashboards and reports to parents, teachers, and admins.
- To keep the service secure and to fix and improve it.
- To send essential account and support messages (and, only with consent, optional updates).
When we share
We share personal information only with service providers who help us operate (hosting, analytics, payments) under contracts that limit their use; when a school directs us to; or when required by law. We do not sell personal information.
Cookies & analytics
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember preferences (like your theme), plus privacy-respecting analytics to understand which lessons work. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on accounts belonging to children.
Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Parents and schools can exercise these rights on behalf of learners. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Security & retention
We protect data with encryption in transit, access controls, and regular review. We keep personal information only as long as needed to provide the service or as required by law, then delete or anonymize it.
International transfers
We may process information in countries other than yours. Where we do, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) consistent with GDPR, UK GDPR, and similar laws.
Changes to this policy
We’ll post any material change here and update the date above. If a change significantly affects how we handle children’s data, we’ll provide additional notice.
